Year 9 pupils attended an online activity hosted by GCHQ (Government Communications Headquarters).

A group of our Year 9 pupils have attended an online activity hosted by GCHQ (Government Communications Headquarters).

This interactive session covered how GCHQ functions and how they supply intelligence analysis to organisations such as the National Crime Agency. GCHQ relies on language specialists who can read, write, speak, listen to, and understand a wide range of languages and dialects. Our pupils heard GCHQ Language Analysts explain their language learning backgrounds and how they use their knowledge and skills to decode and translate communications. Our pupils were also set a code-breaking translation and analysis task in French, which they completed successfully.

The pupils found the session enjoyable, engaging, and thought provoking, as they learnt how using language skills in a career with GCHQ can help prevent potential threats. We are grateful to Mrs Bennett for facilitating this exciting opportunity.
