Sixth Form musicians perform at the opening ceremony of the Knife Angel sculpture in Southend
On Monday 1 July, WHSB was represented by three Sixth Form musicians at the opening ceremony of the Knife Angel sculpture in Southend. Created by the British Ironwork Centre, from over 100,000 confiscated and surrendered weapons, the aim of the imposing installation is to raise awareness around violent crime.
Taran, Jamie and Samuel helped to introduce the artwork by playing a dynamic set featuring songs by Frank Ocean and Bruno Mars. They were thanked by the High Sheriff and Mayor, and invited to tie white ribbons around the barricades in memory of those lost and injured to knife crime. The sculpture will be in place at the top of Southend High Street until the end of July.
Well done to our musicians for their impressive performances at the ceremony, and our thanks to Mr Derrick for coordinating the arrangements for the School’s contribution.
