Westcliff Students Explore the History, Culture and Excitement of Paris

A group of 41 students from Years 9 to the Upper Sixth at Westcliff High School for Boys enjoyed a fantastic 5-day trip to Paris during the October Half Term. Blessed with fairly good weather throughout, pupils experienced some of the most important sites in French history and culture, from the former V2 base at La Coupole to the magnificent Château de Versailles with its Hall of Mirrors, the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, and the historic sites associated with the Occupation, Resistance and Liberation of France. Along the way, students deepened their understanding of French society, language, history and national identity while putting their classroom learning into context.
One of the highlights for many was the visit to the Eiffel Tower, where students enjoyed spectacular nighttime views across Paris while identifying famous landmarks and reflecting on the city's rich history. Another clear favourite was a full day at Parc Astérix, where pupils experienced French popular culture first-hand. The park's newest rollercoaster, Toutatis, proved especially popular, with many students (and some staff!) braving one of Europe's fastest rides.
Beyond the major attractions, students participated enthusiastically in cultural activities, explored French food and supermarkets, visited a local market, and gained invaluable experience of everyday life in France. Throughout the trip they were a credit to the School, demonstrating intellectual curiosity, maturity and excellent behaviour. We are delighted that so many pupils have returned with lasting memories, greater confidence in their French and a renewed enthusiasm for the subject.
With thanks to Mrs Williams for organising this wonderful visit, and to those colleagues who also accompanied the students on the trip.
